Resolute Robotics is the perfect tool to introduce learners to robotics, engineering, and programming. Learners often struggle to understand how the theory they learn applies to their everyday lives. Through Resolute Robotics, learners will be able to build their own robot and bring it to life. Learners will focus on creating and building real-world projects such as an autonomous line following car and access control using radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. Resolute Robotics teaches critical skills, including complex problem-solving skills, critical thinking, creativity, and coordination with peers. The course also aims to improve learners’ skills in the following fields:

Stream: Grades 10 – 12

The course starts off by re-visiting and brushing up on Arduino-based programming and electrical circuits. These skills will be tested by building advanced engineering and computer science-based projects such as:
  • An autonomous line following car – where an autonomous robot follows either a black line in a white area or a white line in a black area. The robot must be able to detect the line and keep following it.
  • Access control using radio frequency identification (RFID) tags – where the user scans an RFID tag/card and the Arduino is programmed to compare the card’s data with the registered users’ data. If the data matches (showing an authorised user), the microcontroller (Arduino) turns ON a servo motor to open the door to the booth. Messages such as “AUTHORISED” or “UNAUTHORISED” will be displayed in the terminal (using a laptop or PC) to show the user if their RFID tag/card is authorised or not.
  • Python Game Development – where students will learn essential game development concepts such as controlling player and non-player sprites, implementing in-game physics and collision, object-oriented game design, randomisation, and artificial intelligence.
By doing these projects, learners show an understanding of automation and testing complex industrial equipment

What’s included in the kit?

The learner receives access to a robotic kit and an online learning platform. The robotic kit has over 29 types of components, including an Arduino microcontroller, multimeter, motors, water pumps, sensor modules, LEDs and fans. Apart from the recommended projects, with a little bit of creativity, these components can be reused to create over 100 projects.
